Miley Cyrus is from a Christian Family????

Before anyone gets mad and thinks I am off my rocker, let me just say….our family loves Hanna Montana/Miley Cyrus. My daughter had all of her cd’s, we watch the show, we went to the concert last year that was shown in the theatre, and we went to the movie. We enjoyed all of them and we didn’t find a lot wrong for our 8 yo and we all were in agreement on liking this actress and singer until…………..the Miley Cyrus concert.

Yes, for my 8yo’s birthday, I took her to a Miley Cyrus concert. I know, she is only 8 but I did it. She absolutely loved the one on one time with mommy and she loved that we got our nails and toes done and she loved that we stayed on the 22nd floor of the Marriot hotel and yes, she loved the concert. She was oblivious, thank goodness, that Miley Cyrus did not look or appear as she was a 16 yo from a Christian family.

Now this is my own personal opinion……..

but I say, Parents Beware, if you are taking your young impressionable girls to this concert. I was first surprised to see that the shorts she wore were just below her cheeks and not the ones on her face. She also kept bending down exposing cleavage during the very beginning of the concert. In most songs, she or the choreographer decided she had to rub herself in front and down her thighs. The good thing about my 8yo is that she didn’t really notice and she just enjoyed listening to the music. If I had to do this again, I would have just taken her to a hotel for the manicure and pedicure and nixed the concert.

I thought that Miley Cyrus was a Christian but I guess not. I can’t imagine that parents who are believers would let their daughter at 16 go on the stage doing these gestures and wearing these outfits. Give me a break. When you know the majority of your fans are young girls, let’s tame it down a bit.

I guess I was surprised because I did take my daughter to the theatre show of her concert a year or so ago and it was completely different. She did dress like a girl who was having fun singing her songs and I enjoyed the concert. I should have taken my daughter to the concert a year ago but who knew?

Anyway, if you are thinking about taking your daughter, I would highly recommend against it and instead get the old concert on dvd and spend the night in the hotel together. You will have more fun and you won’t have to have the appropriate dress for a 16 yo talk like I did!
Have a blessed and pain free day!

Just remember you took her to a Miley Cyrus concert and not a Hannah Montana concert. There is a a huge difference between the two. Miley is 16 and she is doing these concerts for teens and up. Miley is not for little kids. People are letting their little kids follow Miley and take them to the concerts. Miley is not telling you to bring them! You did not go to a Christian music concert. She is a pop star. Her family is in the entertainment business. Once the stars get separated from Disney they are no longer little kid friendly. We know this back from the days when Hilary Duff was Lizzy McGuire. Also wearing short shorts and such doesn't make her unchristian. I think that is a tad harsh. She is not under the Christian music label but Pop. Just my opinion.

I think it was two years ago that some of my in-laws bought a Hannah Montana barbie (we've never allowed barbies because they are playable pin-ups) and a Hannah Montana DVD for my then 4-5 year old. In the show, we saw a 12 or 13 year old Hannah Montana making out with her "boyfriend." It was then we decided that our children would not be watching HM. This was Miley playing HM, but it was still Miley acting it out none the less. It's not just disturbing that HM was kissing a boy at such a young age – it's more disturbing that her real dad is with her on that show and is allowing her to do that kind of stuff! Then, there is, of course, all the craziness surrounding Miley's almost nude photographs taken awhile back – but that's another issue altogether.I don't think it is unfair of you to look at someone's lifestyle and say, "I have a huge gut instinct that they are not following the Lord." If they aren't doing what He says, they aren't following Him.

as christians we won't want anything to do with this world or "their" music. All we would want to do is sing praise and worship songs to Jesus because we are so overcome with peace and love that we can't contain it. I don't know if Miley is a christian or not, but what I do know is that if she was she would've said no to taking those pictures and no to singing pop songs.

Thanks for your review – I've been struggling over this issue! I continue to pray for this talented singer and professing Christian (and her parents). Her vocal gift is amazing – but it appears that the world has gotten a good hold of her. What a battle that child must face inside – keep prayin' for her – she needs it!

Only God can know what is truly in her heart but the communication she is sending is troubling. I don't think a Christian should ONLY listen to Christian music or they are not a true Christian. I do mostly (by FAR) listen to Christian music because it is uplifting and honors God. However, there are some songs that are not Christian (praising God) that are also not against God-not objectionable. It is sad that as these pop stars grow up in this industry, they are swayed away from their Lord. It is a tough thing to be in Hollyweird and be able to maintain your faith. This is why I was not happy when my dd announced she wanted to be an actress. She has since changed her mind and is currently deeply involved in ministries at her college. But had she gone into that field, I was thinking it might be because she was needed. God may have wanted her there for a reason. That brings me to another issue. I don't appreciate being blindsided my movies and such. I once took my son to see the newest Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie and the Cat in the Hat and was appalled both times. However, it was a great opportunity to discuss very important issues with him that we may not have had occasion to discuss. You make lemonade out of lemons in these situations and maybe that is the reason I was there. ??
