How Do I Quit Comparing?

by Karen on September 20, 2010

I have really been thinking about me…me, me, me.  The me in my mind compared to other women….not all women, just the women I look up to.  There are the women I learn from, the women that seem to have it all together, the women that are those type A women that seem to be able to do it all.  In fact, I think I am comparing myself to a lot of my online friends especially those bloggers that I read every day.

I know God has his own plan for me.  I know God has changed me so much since I became a Christian five years ago.  I know God has shown me more of his plan especially since I was baptized in August of 2009.  Sometime I just can’t help thinking what it would be like to live in their shoes and to have the knowledge and abilities that they have. I know it’s wrong, I know it’s coveting, and I know I need to be content….with me………just me…….. the way God made me and with what he gave me!

I know that I need to race to my Bible when I get these thoughts so they won’t overwhelm me and that is exactly what I did.  But when I started searching Bible Gateway this day for a verse to help me, I came across the message below and I knew that God had these words come up because it was exactly what I needed to hear!  I hope this helps you if you are comparing yourself to someone you know.

So how do we find that contentment that the Bible calls “great gain”? For starters, if you must compare, compare yourself with people who are worse off than you are. There are many, many of them. And focus on the God you belong to who is working out a unique plan for you, unlike anyone else’s on earth. As part of His plan, there will always be people with more of what you want and people with less than what you have. He’s measuring out yours in the amounts that will most make you like Jesus and help you be what He made you to be.

Hi beautiful sister in Christ!I stopped in tonight to visit. Listen, you know you are special to GOD…His plan for you is special and uniquely designed for you. When one focuses on what they think about others or how they are living then that person is not able to see JESUS in their own lives fully.Comparisons are dangerous and not necessary because here is the absolute truth…you can have people you look up to and respect but remember, there was/is a cost for them to live the way they live–obeying GOD is rewarding but not always easy, and they have STRUGGLES just like everyone else. I know you know all of this already but I wanted to encourage you to focus on how GOD is blessing, filling and using your life the more you draw close to HIM. I love you and I'm praying for you as I leave your blog tonight.Keep standing for the LORD!
